[00:00:00] Carla White: [00:00:00] All right. So here I am with my trainer, my nutrition coach Nina. Welcome Nina. Hi, thanks for having me, Carla. So tell us, just let us see. I know you, uh, you're awesome. You're amazing. You're like, if you follow her on Instagram, she's just like such a Ray of sunshine. I mean, everything is, so you have this very contagious, electric energy, but.
Uh, tell people more about yourself. Like, what are some things that brought you to this? And. So, um, my name is Nina Rocco on that. I'm a fat loss and fitness coach, um, here in Boise, Idaho, and you know, how I really got into doing what I love to do and helping people is, um, it kind of started with my back injury when I was 19.
Nina Rocco: [00:00:51] I fractured my back on an ATV accident. And so, you know, I have my first, um, back surgery at 27, [00:01:00] 26, 27, and then second one 28 or your later. So, you know, through this journey of am in my mid and late twenties, um, I really have a star like. Learn how to eat properly because I was going through surgeries. I couldn't work out like normal.
Um, my back really hurt on a consistent basis. So it was like chronic pain I was going. Yeah. So you worked out a lot before then you were okay. Twenties. I was lifting. Um, but you know, towards the end, my disks really worked down and I have degenerative disc disease. So. You know, in your early twenties youth, you think you're, you know, in your twenties, you think you're almost like invincible.
You're like, Oh, this is going to happen to me. Right. I'll be fine. I'll be fine. But you know, it slowly wore. And I finally like blew my, both of my discs, just walking in the mall one day. Oh, my gosh, just like crippled [00:02:00] or while I was like, something's going on? Just happened. And my legs started to go numb.
Right. And I went to my other half because he was with me and I was like, something's not right here. Like, something's wrong. So I sat on a bench and I started like, stretching my legs, like thinking maybe I just got a little pinch or something. Cause it's, you know, you get so used to it. And, and then, you know, I get up to go walk and I couldn't even, I fell, I couldn't even use my legs.
So he had to carry me out of the, the mall. And we went straight to the emergency room and, uh, I had to go emergency MRI and like all these things. And I couldn't walk though. It was so painful. So, you know, I, I quickly had to really like control my physique. Eating. And it wasn't just all about exercise, right?
Because we rely on exercise so much to control our bodies, which really is that how we should do that. And so [00:03:00] that's kind of how I, you know, really dove deep and the nutrition and macronutrients and the power of keeping your protein higher. And, um, so that's kinda where that big like journey, you know, that big light bulb went off.
I was like, okay, you know, So after two back surgeries, I, uh, hired the best of the best coaches to get me like rehabilitated and back to lifting and feeling good again. And I was like, you know, after that last back surgery, I was like, this is it. Like, this is my second chance. And I'm going to make the most of it.
And I'm going to get in the best shape of my life. Right. And so, um, But yeah, and that, that turned into helping others really understand nutrition and micronutrients and not how to deprive yourself, but more or less just live normal and, and, uh, have limitations in there. That's what I love about it. So you, you haven't, you have a gym in the new transition that, [00:04:00] to where you're doing more coaching and you do remote coaching as well as.
Um, face-to-face now, um, and you've been helping me out a ton, a ton, a ton. Um, and what I love about it is it's not another crazy diet because the things that I hate with crazy diet is that I get bored. Like I have this small selection of things to you, and it's fun at first because you're trying these new recipes and then it's like, Eggs again for breakfast, come on.
Right. That's kind of where people fall off is these, you know, we call them fad diets because you're so limited and so restricted. And unfortunately it's only gonna last so long. Like you're only going to be able to do that for so long. And that's why people have such great success with it, but then they shortly after that fall off and then they're like, Oh, you know, it worked for a little bit, but you know, they can't sustain it.
No. And here we are entering [00:05:00] into the part of the year where it is like for me personally. Okay. So COVID was hard. I just adapted so many bad habits over COVID, but now we're going into Halloween and then Thanksgiving and then Christmas. And I already like. I know all the things that I want to tech into.
So let's talk about that because I don't want to go through this season, not enjoying my pumpkin pie or, you know, some Christmas cookies and things like that. So let's talk about that. Like, do I have to give it up or what's the deal with that? No, you know, and that's the thing is people think like, Oh, you know, that's why we gained about 10 to 15 pounds during the holidays.
Right. It usually starts at like Halloween time when we're snacking on our kiddos, you know, chocolate that they bring home from trigger trading. Right. And then it's like domino effects from there, but you don't have to give up all your stuff. But we got to think [00:06:00] too is the holiday really is only one day.
Right. So we have like, Halloween Thanksgiving, Christmas. These are only like single days. So if we enjoy ourselves on those days and then leading up to it's the leading up to part that really throws us off, right. Or the leftover part. Yeah. That's why I'm always like, I'm pushing it to my family. And like, you wouldn't eat this home.
Do I take this home? Right? Yeah. Yeah. Cleaning out the junk is so important. The Turkey. All right. It's really not the potatoes. It's not the casseroles, the bean casseroles or whatever, but it's more or less like. The stuff we put into it, or, you know, the pie or all this stuff that we eat on the side. So it's just limiting those things that been like, okay, I'm going to have a piece of pumpkin pie, but then after that, I'm good, you know, I'm going to call it.
So it's a moderation and everything in [00:07:00] moderation, just like anything else, you know, you can oversleep and you can under sleep. You know, you overeat and you can under eat, but we just got to find that happy medium to where we were like, okay, we can still have this, but you know, tomorrow we're going to get right back on and get back to eating healthy without beating yourself up.
Yeah, so this is what, okay. So Nina has been helping me out and I was struggling and struggling and struggling. Cause I was trying to do willpower and all this other stuff. And then, Oh, you hooked up with Nina and I want to hear some more success stories, not just my own, but uh, I dropped, I think it was like three or four pounds.
Not to me. It wasn't very much at all, but she was freaking out. She just like, Oh my God, you didn't know that. And I think. Having somebody coach you is so important for just figuring out the maze, like getting you into a rhythm and routine, but also celebrating those wins. I mean, I can't even begin to tell you how much, uh, momentum that put behind like, Whoa, I felt so [00:08:00] good to have that little celebration.
So, um, talk to us about like, why it's important to have somebody like yourself. Guide people to a different eating habits. Well, for one, not only are you going to get a lot more information because on the internet, you know, we can look up all these things and we try to do it on our own so much. We're like, Oh, we know what to do.
We know what to do, right. But do you really, do you really know what to do? Because I know that we're all like we get in our own heads and for you, you're like, Oh, I only dropped like three or four pounds.
Like, do you know how much three or four pounds is? I don't think people really realize like what one pound of body fat really is. That's two handfuls. That you're getting rid of, you know, that's one pound. And so if you're getting rid of three or four pounds in weight, even within a month, that's fantastic.
And we so [00:09:00] often we. Don't give ourselves enough credit for that. Right? Cause I don't think we relate. Like I always tell my clients, I'm like, I wish I could give you like a bag of potatoes to like show you how much that really is. Cause it's it's a lot. And um, and we gotta be able to celebrate those little wins because those little wins add up to be these big ones in the end.
Right. You continue. I mean, Carla, you've been doing amazing and, and from now, you know, Three months ago, you're you're kicking butt and we look back or like, Oh, You know, we did do that. We did accomplish that. And one thing I'm thinking about is the, the prepping, because when we're working, I know so many people you're at your computer.
I'll just grab a quick bite to eat you Russ ruffle through the cupboards. You're like, Oh, I got this and that and the other. And then you drift back and you get something else, new drift back and drift back. And what I love is. Uh, I always saw you [00:10:00] prepping for meals, um, uh, your Instagram stories and I'm like, well, how do you know what to prep?
And you have like, you laid it out. Well, this is your beans. Like you laid it out. So simply, uh, in your formula, it's like, Pick one thing from here, pick one thing from here and pick one thing from there. That's your meal and just keep combining it up, combining it up and have it ready. And that's it. And, uh, since I started doing that little part, which I thought would be boring, I thought it'd be like, Oh, okay, well I'll eat that little bit.
And then I'll go off and snack again. I actually have, I'm like fall off of that. And I don't want to snack again because I want it pre-packed I want to prepare it and everything already. So that's just ingenious. I love that part. And it's so easy for those of us who are so busy, right. So often I know if I'm not prepped and ready, I'm going to the cupboard and I'm like, There's nothing to eat, you know?
[00:11:00] And so you're just grabbing whatever you can, like a granola bar or some crackers. Right. And then by the end of the day with we've had nothing but carbohydrates or nothing but fat. And so where's your protein, like, that's the last thing that we go to, to pick from, you know? Yeah. Yeah. Oh, sorry, go ahead. It helps, you know, taking that hour or two on a Sunday or a Monday and just even like, you know, preparing it to where it's not cooked, but maybe it's ready to be cooked.
Right. It takes a short amount of time. And that's exactly what you outlined. Like don't cook this, have that cooked. I mean, You broke it down. So simply I didn't have to think. And it was in, like you said, put on some music, spend about a half hour, hour on a Sunday, get it all ready. And then your week, I mean, not only are you eating healthier or you just feel so much better about it, man.
It's like making the bed. Right. I make the bed, I print [00:12:00] my meals. I am adulting like knocking it out of the park. Right. It's true. Yeah, because you go into that bedroom when your bed's not made and you're like, or your clothes aren't put away. It's just that feeling. So in the same thing as we cook, like just grabbing food and, uh, and the other thing I noticed is, uh, not only am I eating healthier and not so much in snacking so much, but, uh, the food bill.
Is much better. It's so much like the amount of money we're spending on food has probably went down at least a hundred bucks a week. I'm guessing at least. Yeah. So often, I mean, how many times have you gone? I've done it before where you go to the grocery store and you're not really planned out of what you're going to buy.
And then you're like, Oh, that looks good. Oh, I'll get a little, this little, this little, this, and then you get home and you're like, what am I going to make? Yeah. And then it goes rotten in the fridge. Cause you didn't [00:13:00] know what to make with it yet really got into terrible habit of trying different types of snacks.
And you know, it's just for fun. Hey, we're at lockdown. Let's make it into a little holiday and well, when seven days a week is a holiday for months on end.
Totally. And it adds up after a while, and then you get in that habit, it's like a domino effect of like, you know, and let's face it. I mean, Being, and we're not talking about having the beach bod, we're talking about having healthy body. And one thing that concerned me the most about letting my health go was not only are we living in a stressful time, but if my body isn't healthy and then the stress on top of it, plus.
[00:14:00] Epidemic pandemic this virus. If I do get it, then how much is that going to knock me out if I'm already unhealthy and I'm already stressed. So I think it's super important to, especially now that we're going into lockdown for the winter and a lockdown. I mean, like we're going to be indoors more. We're going to be isolated more, um, combined more.
Uh, and we, aren't seeing a light at the end of the tunnel right now. So it's up to us to really maintain that health. So absolutely, absolutely. Take it into your own hands. Right. Exactly. So tell us, tell us what's going to do something fun. So excited. We are launching our next 21 day comeback challenge on the 2nd of November.
And we're love being up with you, Carla, with the mice. So I'm so excited for this. And we revamped everything as far as [00:15:00] like, um, the nutrition and we kind of did a soft launch last month with it, and we got some really good feedback and really good results and you've been killing it. I'm super excited.
I'm very, very excited. So it's a 21 day challenge. Although I don't even like that word challenge, kind, kinda a group community. We're going to be in this together. It's like a whole push towards swapping out your habits. And not only do you get Nina as your coach for 21 days, you get my mindset reset together.
We're going to do a twofer bundle. So, um, Uh, and, uh, uh, you're going to do it. We're going to do it as a group taking off November 2nd. Is that it? Okay, so in a week and 21 days and, um, what, where can they find it at? So you can go to my, or excuse me, Adam. [00:16:00] ROC R O CC, my comeback.com R O C C, come back, come back.
Um, I'm going to be in it. I'm going to do it. Meaning it's going to be coaching. I'm going to be taking her challenge along. So, uh, If you need an accountability partner, I'll be your accountability partner. Yeah. Because this is serious stuff. We got to get our health under control. It is. Yeah. Right. Now's a perfect time.
Especially before the holidays hit right before Halloween, before Thanksgiving. So we can get like our bodies in this group of eating healthy and getting our veggies in and getting our protein up and feeling better. I mean, how much is mental health right now? So important. With everything going on, right?
This is not only are you going to get the challenge, but you've got the mindset reset. You know, it's like a one shebang, like this is hand in hand. So this is something that [00:17:00] Nina and I have wanted to do for gosh month. And we've talked about this because I go into her, like I get her coaching for the health, and then she's coming to me for the mindset.
And I'm like, we should just marry these two. Like, it is really what you need is both of those together. So you're getting the 21 day mindset reset. So it's 21 day mindset reset that calm. You're getting that. Plus a rock, your comeback. Yeah together. And, uh, it's really just so we can have a whole group of people.
Uh, it's not just for women. It's for everybody. It's for all body types, all health levels. Um, it doesn't matter where you're at with your health. You can me noble coach. You. To the optimal level. Why don't you share some stories about some people that you've helped out in the past? Cause there's some remarkable stories.
Oh my gosh, we've done so many people have done such amazing things on this. We just had a girl. Um, she just went through it last month and she and her [00:18:00] husband were going through in vitro. Um, and they weren't having a ton of luck. And so she went through the challenge. She was like, well, maybe I, you know, need to lose a little bit of body fat, you know, get, get healthier, get healthier habits going.
Well, not only did she lose, I want to say it was about eight inches all around and then dropped eight pounds altogether. Now, granted, I want you to know, as, even though she dropped eight pounds, she probably dropped a little bit more than that. Just embodied that because. Issue came up a little bit, but they got pregnant and she was like, I was like, no way.
And that, to me, it got me thinking I'm like, I wouldn't be surprised that this help just for the fact that, you know, she lost some weight, she's feeling better. And you know, when we feel better all around, I think that's going to shine in every direction of our, of our life. Right? Whether it's like, you know, [00:19:00] medical or mental or relationships.
And so, so we've had some great successes with her. She was so happy. She was all excited. And then she dropped another two to three pounds post the challenge. She's like, I'm still rocking it. And I was like, yes, girl, this is awesome. Yeah, it's good. Oh my gosh. It's been so amazing and it doesn't matter where you're at.
You can be anywhere in the world and do this. You don't have to have a gym, you can do it from home. The workouts are all super, super easy. Um, and we're starting to do just that, just that the basics, you know, we don't need to do anything special, no special diets. Let's just get into eating healthy exercising, getting our sleep, drinking our water, and working on our mindset.
I love this. Did you catch, you do not need a gym membership. You do not need any like you, this is, I love this because so many of the programs out there, you kind of already need to be at a [00:20:00] certain level to get it. Like I've joined seven. I'm like, Oh, I don't know how to do these weights and all this other stuff.
And it's like, yeah. And you give up because you're just so overwhelmed and I love that this one's like, Nope, you can do it. Like you just have make time. Oh, here's the other cool thing is that Nina has turned it into a hero podcast. So she's using it FM. And so you can, don't even have to be tethered to your computer to get through this.
You can like listen to Nina as you're driving the kids to school. Yup. And listen to me, bringing them up later on or whatever on the go as well. So you get, you can get the podcast. Um, you, you get both of them in private podcasts. So it's learning as just as easy as listening to a podcast. And that's what I love because I go out for a walk or run in the morning and I just listen to Nina first thing in the morning and it just puts my head in straight.
So I love it. [00:21:00] I love that. I love that. And it's, I love how it's easy assessable because that's what as adults and working parents need is is we need easy something that can fit into our life. That's not, we don't have to like go extremely out of our way to achieve this right. Yeah. Yeah, absolutely. So, uh, rack your comeback.
I'm so excited to be doing this cause we've talked about this for so many months and maybe we'll make it into a regular thing, but for Christmas or for the holiday seasons, as well as, you know, everything else are dealing with the elections and all the stuff, all the things we, yeah. Yeah. You're so right.
Yeah. I'm excited. This'll be awesome. Yeah. Uh, I've been just a, uh, for the listeners out there, I've been listening to you, the audio book, who not how, um, and it's all about finding the right who to shortcut your process [00:22:00] and they, they get it. It's, there's a few things that stick out from the book, but when you get a coach or when you find your, who.
Like, whether it's a coach or an assistant or an employee or somebody, when you find your, who you show up as a different person and mentally you're a different person. Yeah. And when you think of that, who as an investment, not a cost, if you think of it as investment, not a cost, you get more out of that individual.
Because you're viewing that individual completely different. You're not going, how much is this costing me? How much does this cost to me? It's like, this is my investment. What am I going to get out of it? And those two things really stick out for me. So I'm going to be getting more who's into my life. Uh, as I do that, then me and I'm so grateful that you're my, uh, health who my, my physical, who you're just.
An amazing person all around, but you're [00:23:00] very, very passionate about this. If you want somebody to celebrate your wins and help you get there, uh, just with so much encouragement and understanding that is Nina. So hopefully you guys join us on this challenge. Yes. I'm excited. This will be awesome. I love being the ho.
Sounds like a doctor. So
yeah, you are definitely my nutrition who, because you made it so easy and that's what I needed. I got too much on my mind. Like we can only make so many decisions a day. Thank you for making my life easier. So you for kicking butt and if you want to follow a Nina on Instagram, what's your Instagram handle.
Rock underscore body, R O C C underscore. Uh, she's so much fun. Get to know her, sign up for a challenge, sign up for her challenge first. And [00:24:00] when you do, then you'll get a special, uh, access to my child to the 21 day mindset reset. So go to rock your body. Rock your comeback, direct your comeback. It'll be in the show notes, rock your comeback, and then go to 21 day mindset reset.
She'll have it in the welcome email and we are going to kick that off next week. All right. Thank you, Nina. Okay.
